ABOUT ED JACKSON, ARA

Ed Jackson’s education and training, rural background, 30 years of experience, and a personal attention to detail enable him to deliver the quality real property appraising and consulting services that his clients deserve.

RURAL FOCUS & BACKGROUND

Originally from Chouteau County, Montana, Ed was raised on a dryland grain operation prior to attending Montana State University, and receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Agriculture.

The consistent focus of Ed’s professional experience, from his appraisal work for the Montana Department of Revenue, to Doane Western Company’s Montana office, to his experience working with Dennis Hoeger, MAI, ARA at Hoeger-Jackson & Associates, to now owning and operating his own company has been a commitment to agricultural and (more broadly) all manner of rural property assignments and consultations.

Ed’s experience includes assignments dealing with rights-of-way, eminent domain issues, acquisition projects, and access easements.

LITIGATION SUPPORT

Ed has a consistent exposure to assignments that require litigation support. He has been qualified and accepted by the Court to provide expert testimony; both in cases involving properties he’s appraised, as well as assisting the Court in cases wherein he was not the principal appraiser.

MINERAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Ed’s company has managed a portfolio of mineral properties for a period of over 10 years. His activities on behalf of the owners included negotiating lease-terms with exploration/production companies, verifying ownership interests, and dealing with royalty issues.

Based on this involvement, Ed can knowledgeably assist clients in determining the value contribution of minerals (or other real property interests) as part of a real estate appraisal; he can also provide consultations regarding the value of real property interests in stand-alone situations.

PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION

In 1990, Ed was awarded the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation;(conferred by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Inc.). The ARA designation is earned by appraiser members who have years of reviewed experience, technical instruction and testing, and have passed a rigid final comprehensive examination. The ASFMRA (founded in 1929) is the pioneer organization in the education of rural property appraisers.

CHARACTER

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the issue of character. Let’s face it: too many agencies, businesses and individuals don’t have a stellar reputation for delivering a quality product or service to their clients or customers. Too often, that reputation is deserved.

By maintaining a small, focused operation, Ed can make certain that the product delivered to clients is properly researched and executed. If an assignment requires the expertise of additional professionals (whether it might be an engineering matter, a legal issue, etc.), Ed will involve and include those resources to make sure that his conclusion, and the final work product is properly documented and supported.
